Running Club / Homework Club

Hi there!

Running Club starts tomorrow! 7:45 sharp in the lobby. Ms Callahan will be there to supervise.

Math Club will also be on tomorrow for those who are not running. I think this may be our last Math Club for the year as I know there are a number of you who would like to run, instead. Let's talk about this tomorrow. But I will be in at 7:45 for those who are in Math Club.

A Few Pics

TDSBCreates

Visual Artist Ebti Nabag had her final session with us today. Over the last few visits, we have been creating a piece about TRUTH. We've discussed our personal identities, our personal expressions, what we love best about life, what we worry about and what is most meaningful to us. We talked about bullying and honesty and upholding the truth. The dialogue was so rich and tremendously mature and inspiring from these Grade 3's and 4's. Here is Ebti, our crew and the piece they created.

International Day of Pink

Our Day of Pink lessons, discussions and activities were also rich and inspiring.  We read books about challenging gender bias (My Princess Boy by Cheryl Kilodavis, William's Doll by Charlotte Zolotow and Who are You? by Brook Pessin Whedbee).

We were thrilled to be one of the winners of the Pink Day competition and we got to take home some yummy cookies. I will find out who baked them and post the company name. They were AMAZING! Pictures below of our door and bulletin board.

Special popsicles from Ms Callahan who loved our posters, writing and bulletin board!

Congratulations to Sofia!

Congratulations to Sofia for having her story chosen to be published in Canadian Impressions, an ESL publication. Only a short time ago, Sofia arrived at Clairlea and worked hard to learn English and here she is, a published author! Congratulations, Sofia! We are so proud of you!

Clairlea & Community Clean-up Day

On Friday, April 12, we did a school yard clean up for our Clairlea & Community Clean-up Day (before the rain came!). Unfortunately, I don't have pictures but we lived the experience! Who knew worms and centipedes could cause so much screaming!

It's been a fun and busy time in our classroom.

April 8 to 12

Wednesday (April 10)  is International Day of Pink.

Please wear a pink t-shirt/sweatshirt on Wednesday to celebrate diversity and raise awareness.

What have we been doing?
We have been reading, talking and reflecting on Gender, Gender Identity and Gender Expression and will continue on with the conversations and primary-level reading materials this week.

From the Day of Pink website https://dayofpink.org/about/

"It is a day where communities across the country, and across the world, can unite in celebrating diversity and raising awareness to stop homophobia, transphobia, transmisogyny, and all forms of bullying.

The International Day of Pink was started in Nova Scotia when 2 straight high school students saw a gay student wearing a pink shirt being bullied. The 2 students intervened, but wanted to do more to prevent homophobic & transphobic bullying. They decided to purchase pink shirts, and a few days later got everyone at school to arrive wearing pink, standing in solidarity. The result was that an entire school took a stand and began working together to prevent homophobic & transphobic bullying.
Looking forward to seeing all your pink on Wednesday!

Wednesday is Pizza Lunch Day

Friday is Clairlea & Community Clean up Day
  • Students should wear clothes that are suitable for the weather and outdoor cleanup.
  • Gloves and bags will be provided.
